A reference photo can make custom cake communication much faster.

But the most useful reference is not simply “a beautiful cake photo.”

What matters is telling us what you like about it.

1. Mark the main color

“Pink” can mean:

  • soft pink
  • dusty pink
  • nude pink
  • neon pink

If the shade matters, circle or mark it directly on the image.

2. Point out the elements you like

You can mark:

  • flowers
  • ribbons
  • lettering
  • piping
  • toppers
  • fruit placement

It does not need to look professional.

Clear is better than perfect.

3. Tell us what you do not want

This part is often forgotten.

If you dislike the gold details, pearls, borders or certain toppers in the reference image, mark them clearly.

That can prevent a lot of misunderstanding.

4. A reference is a direction, not a copy command

Cake size, cream, materials and decoration methods vary.

So an exact 1:1 copy may not always be practical.

It is better to use the reference for:

color + mood + elements + composition.

FAQ: How many reference images should I send?

One image is enough to start.

Two or three are also fine if you explain:

  • Image A: I like the color
  • Image B: I like the shape
  • Image C: I like the lettering

That is more useful than sending many images with no explanation.
