When we first put desserts and milk tea together for an afternoon tea event, the idea was not simply to run a promotion.
We wanted to answer a very normal question:
Which drink actually works best with this dessert?
1. Light desserts: keep the fruit flavor clear
Fruit cakes, fresh cream desserts and lighter mousses pair best with drinks that do not overpower them.
A lighter milk tea usually lets the fruit stay fresh and noticeable instead of covering it with too much dairy or sweetness.
2. Rich desserts: balance the sweetness
Chocolate, cheesecake and buttery pastries have stronger flavors.
They work well with creamier drinks, but if you prefer something less heavy, a more tea-forward and lower-sugar drink can help refresh your palate.
3. One dessert and one drink can be enough
Afternoon tea does not need to be a full table.
For one person, one dessert and one drink already feels complete. For two people, choosing different flavors and sharing them makes the experience more interesting.
That idea still shapes how we think about pairings at IM CAKE:
the goal is not to order more — it is to order better.
